like, we know what Martian sunrises look like

a whole different sunrise on a whole different planet!

and it’s the same sun as the one we see rising too! but that’s it!

it’s a different planet, there’s a different sky, it’s got different moons, different air. even the night sky is slightly different from the one we see on earth.

and we have put stuff on it

we have reached our little robotic wheely feet out and planted them on the surface of another world

that’s some real shit

I kind of laugh when people complain about “Where is my flying car?” Especially when I see someone do it on Twitter or Facebook, or from a smartphone. Oh, I’m sorry, you’re using a device smaller than your hand to send a message to a network of computers that spans the entire globe, so your message could potentially be read by any of millions or billions of people, instantly, if they so chose.

And you’re using that all to complain that the future isn’t futuristic enough.


We’ve been taking photos from the surface since 1976. Now let’s fucking get off our asses, build a heavy lift vehicle, figure out how to protect ourselves from radiation and micrometeors on a long duration flight and get the fuck to that planet with humans.  Science and technology is great. But having something described by a feeling human as perceived through the human eye is a whole different matter.
